Jess + Will
The Venue
Jess + Will had a love adventure for the books! They were married on the ocean in Hawaii, with their closest family and friends by their sides. They explored multiple islands and soaked up the magic that is Hawaii.
Their love adventure started long before that though.
Even their proposal story was adventurous!
After a skydiving date, Will organized their family and friends to be at the landing spot. They had signs and smiles, ready to watch Will propose to Jess.
The best part about both of these two examples of Jess + Will's adventure love story, is that they were both on video!
Since Hawaii is further away from their home state of Michigan, but Jess + Will still wanted to be able to share their happiest day with their favorite people, they decided to use the footage of their special days and do a cozy, fall, movie date wedding celebration at Blue Heron Barn.
Blue Heron Barn is a stunningly restored dairy barn, with patios and gorgeous landscaping. It really is a beautiful place to host an event.

Portraits
I could have taken portraits of Jess + Will all day! They have such obvious chemistry and it's clear that not only are they the love of each other's lives, but they're best friends too.
Wedding Party
One of the things about having a destination wedding like Hawaii is that all wedding party members aren't always able to attend. That's why it was so important to Jess + Will to capture photos with their wedding party.
While they did have family in their wedding party, Jess + Will's party people were all family to them.
Movies, Desserts + Dancing
They had a projector set up to view their videos, and popcorn and donuts as yummy treats, because what movie date doesn't have those?!
Though beforehand, they still did a couple of more wedding traditional things, such as emotion-filled speeches, a delicious catered meal, and cake cutting. A cake that was pure ART! I actually did not even realize it was a cake. Jess's sister was the artist who made the cake, telling me that she actually had painted it to have the look of real birch wood. The cake was topped with replicas of two of the loved pups in their life. Which, I'm always a huge fan of incorporating the fur babies in your life on your wedding days!
They also had a blessing over their marriage by a family member before the wedding video began, almost like a ceremony.
And following the videos, none other than a good old fashion dance floor broke out! Jess + Will shared a married dance, one that had a little plot twist. A long-time family friend shared their anniversary with Jess + Will's movie date day. Jess + Will wanted to honor this couple by sharing their dance with them.
Of course, parent dances were a must too! One of my favorite shots of the day was actually one of Jess and her Dad. Possibly it was the happy faces and the twinkling lights, or even more likely it is because I have the privilege of knowing Jess's Dad, Mark. One of Jess's step-sisters, Haleigh, is a super good friend of mine, someone I like to call my "Forever Friend", the Copper to my Todd (Disney movie reference, anyone know which movie?!). Haleigh has invited me to her parent's house for pool and lunch dates, which is where I first met Jess's Dad and actually Jess herself! Knowing Mark, and Haleigh's amazing Mama, it's easy to understand why Jess is as wonderful a human as she is. When you're surrounded by fantastic people, you yourself tend to be a pretty spectacular person.

Sparklers
Ending the night with a sparkly bang!
I love a good sparkler exit. Something about the thrill of feeling like you're going to catch your hair on fire, the child-like wonder that always comes with sparklers and seeing all the love that literally illuminates as the couple runs through the tunnel of flaming glitters is really quite magical.
One thing that was a first for me during Jess + Will's sparkler exit was having them grab sparklers too and pretend to use them as light sabers or swords. Just showing off their playful sides and being their true selves, which is really nothing short of phenomenal.
I'm genuinely grateful to have been able to help such a great couple and their favorite people document a unique way to celebrate their marriage. Getting the chance to get to know Jess + Will, even just the little bit that I did, is really a special treat.
Cheers and sparkles to love and wonderful humans!
